I would say I’m a musician-etc. Or maybe that my work is music in the expanded field. I’m mostly interested in the superposition of these two relationships: sound / image and art / technology. But I understand them from a critical, and perhaps negative, perspective. Instead of asking myself how close they can be, I do research the gap, and the limit, between sound and image – how far apart they inevitably are. Technology, mostly the computer, is there to make that connection, fill in the gap. But that is a rather impossible task. For that reason, my main strategy is to reveal contradictions, without solving them or choosing sides. To expose paradoxes as a way of departing from the illusion of harmony. Analog / digital. Light / shadow. Playback / live. Improvisation / composition. Gesture / algorithm.
